The Window Regulator
Here is a brief overview of the design and operation of the window regulator and motor assemblies found in most cars and trucks.
Scissor Type-
This type of regualt assembly utilizes a gear and scissor mechanism connector to a power window motor or hand crank to lift and lower the window glass. The windo motor is either mounted to the regulator or the inner door skin for support. The top rail is mounted to the window glass and there is usually one support that is mounted stationary on the inner door skin to act as the pivit point.
Cable Type-
This type of regulator assembly is refered to as a cable type regulator. The lift motor and rails are mounted to the inner door skin, and in most cases the glass is fastened to the regulator by plastic clamps. The power window motor operates a cable pulley inside of the regulator housing which in turn moves the window glass mount up and down the track.
